1. Ubuntu 8.04, ATI x800xl - in Linux [original thread]
Suppose I could reenable the driver from the repositories via the manager. I may give that a whirl. As far as the updates.. again, I'm just hunting to see if they've improved 3d support at all. So far it's been a big sad 'NO', unfortunately. ES

2. Ubuntu 8.04, ATI x800xl - in Linux [original thread]
That's not so good, actually. EnvyNG is only offering 8.6 on the ATI side of things. And doing it by hand sorta makes me cringe. though at least I could fall back on the command line of envy if I broke things. *ponders* Thanks for the response. ...

5. Eve On 64bit Linux - in Linux [original thread]
Hadn't tried it, but that does sound about par for the course. I remember reading recently an article, something about a significant amount of windows crashes being due bad audio code running. Ugh, wish I could remember where, but it's just not co...

6. Eve "bubbles" - in Linux [original thread]
Actually, changing the depth on the graphics (24 bit, 32/8bit stencil, etc etc etc) will 'clean' up the graphics. It's not permanent, of course, but it works more conveniently than purging the cache (which requires a restart). ES

7. Eve On 64bit Linux - in Linux [original thread]
And yes, before i updated (from 7.10 to 8.04) I was running the ccp client on 64bit kernel with no major issues (occasional texture barfing) The wine client currently runs visually perfect, with very occasional crash... I can't blame wine at this...

9. What graphic card to prefer? - in Linux [original thread]
That said, ATI has really gotten on the stick with their driver effort 'lately'.. last year or so? The linux driver does currently suck, but... the coming months may see a change in that status. It's a gamble. I admit, the last time I chose a grap...

Which client are you running with that setup? My current setup with the athlon 3500+, using a 8800gts/320, does ok in open space, CCP client runs around 20-30fps or so, but once space starts getting crowded, framerate plummets. Less than 1 fps, so...
